With the kids back to school and the temperatures dropping the beginning of flu season is upon us again and with that the risk of catching the flu or a virus. We at YCIT usually talk about virus’s IN your computer but this time we would like to bring your attention to a virus ON your computer.

Some disturbing statistics:

• Several studies have shown keyboards to be dirtier than the average toilet seat
• In July of this year, msnbc.com reported researchers found food-poisoning bacteria on keyboards
• A U.K. consumer organization study two years ago found keyboards five times dirtier than the average toilet seat. And tests at a Chicago hospital in 2005 found bacteria including VRE and MRSA living on the keys for 24 hours

It seems to me that we don’t wash our hands after using a keyboard and we hardly ever wash our keyboards. If we do wash our keyboard we will do a quick wipe with a cloth or a wet wipe but we usually will avoid anything aggressive for fear of damaging the keyboard.

A thorough cleaning is what is required.
